Ratburger

Ratburger

RATBURGER- written by  the humorous DAVID WALLIAMS and illustrated by the talented TONY ROSS- is essentially based on the enticing story about Zoe's (the main character's) adverse life; she has three pestering scenarios that occur, seeming to go on interminably:
1) Zoe's mother had faced a tragic passing when Zoe was 3. Consequently, Zoe's dad married Sheila ( Zoe's odious, overweight stepmother) and Sheila is so lazy that she requests Zoe to give her a massage.
2) Zoe has the most unpleasant time at school, being bullied by Tina Trotts.
3) Zoe possesses a hamster who passes away at the beginning. Nevertheless, she locates a rat perching in the corner of her room; this leads to her facing severe consequences...
Like every preceding book of David Walliams, this book also matched every expectation that I had as a reader.

I found this book exceedingly humorous and at times it could be very solemn too. However, I found the ending slightly peculiar although it was a great book overall.

What I learnt from Dumbledore

What I Learnt From Dumbledore

Quotations:

“Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?”

“It matters not what someone is born, but what they grow up to be.”
“We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided.”

"It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live."

"Happiness can be found in the darkest times, if one only remembers           to turn on the light."

Jack and Harry

LAST WEEK: HARRY WAS DELIVERED AN UNUSUAL ENVELOPE LATE AT NIGHT...
Chapter 2

Harry glared at the tatty envelope, there was something unusual about. Eyes still fixed on the mail, he opened it when a parchment fluttered in the air. Harry picked it up and unfolded it. It read as follows:

Dear Harry and Jack Davis,
I am very pleased to inform you that you have  been awarded the privilege to take 2 tickets to an island in Venice, France.
This will happen on the 24th February until the  30th February 2013.We look forward to seeing you at Heathrow Airport.
Yours Sincerely,
Mr. Havisham.

Harry was confused, very confused! There was a number of strange, incorrect things written here on the parchment, for example: Venice isn't in France and there is no 30th February. Harry told Jack all about it. Harry was sure of one thing... he was leaving on the 24th February to Heathrow Airport.

It was the 24th February... Harry had packed his bags and he was standing in Heathrow Airport. There was a gathering at the counter and he approached it. A sight startled him.

CHECK NEXT WEEK TO FIND OUT WHAT HARRY SAW!

Jack and Harry

Chapter 1

"DING-DONG" went the doorbell as Harry  opened the door and gave way to his younger brother- Jack- who had arrived after a tiring day at his Secondary School. Jack was in his usual state, filthy and exhausted; Harry wondered if Jack had been bullied again.
Jack had been teased a lot at school, by a bunch of big kids, and even the teachers used to make fun of him. His overweight, round body is mainly the reason for his discontentment but there are many other reasons as well. For example, his full name is Jack Davis (take a look at the initials) so I think you can understand how harsh life could be for him.

Harry, on the other hand, is very slender and thin with round glasses (you could imagine him to be like Harry Potter, but without the scar and all that). On one cold November night, Harry was making dinner when there was a knock on the front door...

"Mail for Harry Davis," said a postman.

"At this time?" Harry looked at his watch- 21:43- he collected the envelope and thanked the mysterious postman. He glared at the tatty envelope, there was something unusual about it...

CHECK NEXT WEEK TO FIND OUT WHAT IS IN THE ENVELOPE!!!

What I learnt from...

WHAT I LEARNT FROM YODA...

A Jedi must have the deepest commitment, the most serious mind.

Doing anything without committing our whole attention and time to it will just result in a waste of time.

If you choose the quick and easy path as Vader did - you will become an agent of evil.

Kind of obvious, I know, but this stays in my mind, all the same.

Mind what you have learned. Save you it can.

I try!

You must unlearn what you have learned.

Paradoxical statement ,after the earlier one but true enough for many things.

Wars not make one great.

The Man on the Beach

THE MAN ON THE BEACH

He was there again. The old man on the beach in front of my house. He shuffled slowly along, his back bent with exhaustion and old age. Every now and then, he stopped to pick up a sea-shell and dropped it in his tatty satchel.
I now know why he does that. His wrinkled hand picks them up because he was told that if you ever lose a loved one, you should collect shells and one day, the dead person will come back alive. The elderly, lonely man's son had died in the war. That is why he collects shells with a lot of hope.
I watch him every day as his grey hair blows around his wrinkled face. His thin, frail body shivers in the cold, icy wind as he looks up at the grey sky above him. His dry, parched lips mumble something and I move behind the bush so that he doesn't see me.

Ever since his son had died, he bought a dog. Whenever I see the poor old man collecting shells, his faithful dog is perched on the bench or strolling behind his owner. Every day when I see that, tears roll down my cheeks. Today I caught a tear on my tongue and it tasted bitter but I knew it wouldn't be as bitter as the lonely man's life.
